The 2013 River Festival to celebrate the river was great fun! The giant washing line with thousands of shirts (to be donated to schools in the area) caused quite a stir. Rotary achieved its aim of getting Vanderbijlpark into the Guiness Book of Records with the longest washing line over water.
The day was about celebrating the river. This is indeed a priceless asset but it’s being ruined by polluters.
SAVE was at the festival to gain new members, raise funds which are required to mount a Court case against central government in an effort to get Court Orders to force the Government to take steps to stop pollution into the river, especially from sewerage spillages which seem to be happening daily.
